BJP national spokesperson Sambit Patra held a press conference on Monday, unveiling a 114-page research report by JNU professors Manuradha Chaudhary and Preeti Das, which allegedly highlights how illegal Rohingya and Bangladeshi immigrants have impacted Delhi’s infrastructure and economy.

Patra accused the AAP and Congress of supporting these infiltrators for political gain, claiming that they have caused a demographic shift and created widespread problems in the capital.

“The influx of Rohingyas and Bangladeshis has severely altered Delhi’s social and economic fabric,” Patra said. He pointed to sectors like construction, where he claimed workers from Purvanchal and other states were being displaced by illegal immigrants.

“The earnings that should have gone to our brothers and sisters from Purvanchal are now being taken by these migrants. There is no documentation for this. It is all happening under the political protection of AAP and the Congress,” he added.

Patra further alleged that the AAP and the Congress were manipulating the electoral system by creating fake voter identities for these immigrants, a claim he said was backed by the report. He described the presence of these immigrants as a “serious threat” to Delhi’s future, accusing both parties of enabling their settlement to gain political support.

The report, which focuses on neighborhoods like Seelampur, Jamia Nagar, Zakir Nagar, Sultanpuri, Mustafabad, Jafrabad, Dwarka and Gokulpuri, claims that these areas have seen the illegal settlement of Rohingyas and Bangladeshis, facilitated by brokers, clerics and informers. It also suggests that the illegal migrants have established criminal networks within these localities.

Patra warned that if this trend continues, Delhi’s infrastructure and job market would be further undermined, calling on voters to recognise the risks posed by illegal immigration and the parties allegedly supporting it. He also urged voters to remember the importance of securing a better future for their children when casting their ballots on February 5.

Patra concluded by linking the issue to the ongoing debates around the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), claiming that the AAP and the Congress are opposed to the CAA while supporting those involved in the 2020 Delhi riots.
