Police tighten security ahead of byelections

Delhi Police have begun a comprehensive review of security arrangements ahead of the November 30 MCD by-elections, with senior officials directing all districts to step up preparedness in sensitive pockets.

Officials said Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) across districts have started holding detailed review meetings with ACPs and SHOs to assess ground-level readiness. These assessments focus on area domination, preventive measures against troublemakers and ensuring smooth law and order on polling day.

“SHOs have been instructed to maintain strict surveillance on known offenders and increase both foot and vehicle patrolling. The aim is to plug any potential security gaps,” an officer said.

Additional pickets, motorcycle patrols, PCR units and reserve staff will be deployed based on local requirements. Personnel posted in various districts are also being briefed on crowd-control measures and quick-response protocols.

Meanwhile, to ensure seamless movement of polling personnel, Delhi Metro will begin services at 4 am on both polling day (November 30) and counting day (December 3). On Sunday, the last train will depart at 11.30 pm instead of 11 pm. Trains will operate every 30 minutes until 6 am before switching to the regular timetable.
