Politics of 'confrontation' harmed Delhi in last 10 years, new BJP govt will work with Centre: L-G in Delhi Assembly
Delhi Lieutenant Governor (L-G) VK Saxena on Tuesday slammed the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) regime for its alleged “politics of confrontation” which he believes has harmed the national capital in the past decade.
“My government believes that the politics of constant confrontation and blame game in the last 10 years has harmed Delhi. By completely abandoning this unwanted situation, my government will work in coordination and cooperation with the Centre,” the L-G said in his address at the Delhi Assembly.
The AAP MLAs created a ruckus in the House while the L-G was addressing it. Acting tough, Speaker Vijendra Gupta, marshalled out 14 of the AAP MLAs and even suspended them for a day.
Saxena said that through a massive mandate, the people of Delhi have expressed their faith in his government and the policies contained in its manifesto.
“This mandate is a positive symbol of the aspirations of the people of Delhi and reflects their hopes and expectations, which have been ignored and neglected till now,” he said.
Saxena added the Delhi government in the next five years will give extensive emphasis to the ten key areas—corruption-free efficient administration, empowerment of women, welfare of the poor, improvement in health facilities, excellent education system, world-class road transport, clean and pollution free Delhi, revival of Yamuna river, clean water, regularisation of unauthorised colonies and affordable housing.
“My government will adopt the ‘Viksit Delhi’ resolution as a policy document. All the department heads have been instructed to prepare a 100-day action plan and prepare a development plan,” the L-G said.
He added in the coming few months, the first priority of the Delhi government will be to fix the problems of roads, drains, sewer lines, health facilities, and drinking water.
“Along with this, my government will make the weak and corrupt system, which was hidden behind the illusion of advertisements, corruption-free and strong and smooth with immediate effect,” the L-G asserted.
As per Saxena, the Delhi government will from day one work on short, medium, and long-term projects to clean the Yamuna and tackle air pollution.
“My government will make adequate efforts to increase solid waste treatment capacity to eliminate garbage mountains in Ghazipur, Okhla, and Bhalswa, and redevelop them on the lines of DDA’s Bansera Park,” the LG stressed.
Saxena also mentioned welfare schemes like Ayushman Bharat, Rs 2500 monthly assistance to women, and one-time assistance of Rs 21,000 to pregnant women in his speech. “While my Government will continue the existing welfare schemes on one hand, it will also make these schemes more effective and corruption-free,” he added.
