Press AAP button so hard that current reaches Amit Shah: Kejriwal after attack on Rithala MLA
AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal’s reaction to the alleged attack on its Rithala MLA seemed like a deja vu moment.
“Is baar jab vote dene jao, Jhaadu ka button aise dabana ki current sidha Amit Shah tak paunche (This time when you go to cast your vote, press AAP’s button so hard that its current directly reaches Amit Shah),” Kejriwal said while addressing a gathering in Rithala.
Interestingly, during the 2020 Delhi Assembly elections, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, while campaigning for the BJP candidate in Delhi’s Babarpur constituency, had made somewhat similar remarks.
”When you press the button (on the voting machine) on February 8, do so with such anger that its current is felt at Shaheen Bagh,” the top BJP leader had said then.
The AAP convener’s strong reaction came after the party alleged that its Rithala MLA Mohinder Goyal was attacked while campaigning in Sector 11, following which he was hospitalised.
Kejriwal has strongly condemned the attack, calling out the BJP for resorting to violence as they see their electoral defeat imminent in Delhi. “BJP is losing elections badly in Delhi - in frustration they have now resorted to violence. We strongly condemn the attack on our MLA Mohinder Goyal from Rithala,” Kejriwal posted on X and even shared the clip of the incident.
Meanwhile, sharing details about the incident, DCP (outer-north) Nidhin Valsan said a PCR call was received at Shahbad Dairy police station around 11 am regarding a scuffle during a political meeting in Sector 11, Rohini, following which the cops rushed to the spot where upon local enquiry, it was found that AAP MLA Goyal was holding a discussion with local residents inside the pocket H in Sector 11.
“Discussion was about an old video in which one Rakesh Rana (who died a few years back) was visible. Family member of Rakesh Rana, wife and son who live in the same location, came to know about this and arrived at the meeting. They objected to the video and discussions around that. Arguments took place and a minor scuffle was reported,” the DCP said.
According to the police, both parties have given complaints and a legal action will be taken accordingly.
