Organised by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, the festival aimed to raise awareness about disabilities, promote acceptance and ensure equal participation of the disabled in society.

Addressing the gathering, the President said a nation’s reputation was determined by its sensitivity towards the underprivileged.

“Compassion, inclusivity and harmony are the core values of our civilisation. The Preamble of our Constitution upholds social justice, equality and individual dignity. I am glad that the Government of India is making significant efforts to empower ‘divyangjan’ through initiatives such as the Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan,” she added.

The festival featured cultural performances by persons with disabilities, which the President lauded.

A variety of activities — including sports events, workshops on digital inclusion and entrepreneurship, Abilympics (a skill competition for persons with disabilities) and a creative arts showcase — were held at the programme.

Officials from the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment said the festival was not just a celebration, but also a platform to foster greater awareness and inclusion. The initiative sought to change perceptions about disabilities and encourage equal opportunities in education, employment and social life, they added.
