Railways form two-member committee to probe stampede at New Delhi station
Railways on Sunday formed a two-member committee to probe the stampede at the New Delhi Railway station that left 18 people dead.
Narsingh Deo, Principal Chief Commercial Manager, Northern Railway and Pankaj Gangwar, Principal Chief Security Commissioner, Northern Railway are the members of the committee, the railways said.
The committee, which has commenced it inquiry, secured all video footage of the New Delhi Railway station on Sunday.
Narsingh Deo, member of the inquiry committee, visited the scene of the incident on Sunday as part of the investigation.
“CCTV footage has been stored and a thorough investigation is being conducted,” said Deo. He said all CCTV cameras are being analysed and statements of witnesses will be recorded.
The stampede was preceded by a swell in crowd of passengers waiting to board trains for Prayagraj -- where the Maha Kumbh is underway -- on platform number 14 and 15 of the station.
