Residents of Gurugram city woke up to heavy rain lashing the city on Friday morning.
This is the third spell of rainfall during this week, which has once again exposed infrastructural lapses resulting into waterlogging and long traffic jams.
The school children, labourers, industrial workers and office-goers suffered as motor vehicles were seen running at a snail’s pace with tyres deep in rain water.
Naureen Naaz, a home maker living in Jal Vihar Colony, Sector-46, told The Tribune that she requested one of her neighbours to drop her 5-year old daughter Daisha Aamir to school at 7.30 am. Since, she had to appear in the monthly examination, it was essential for her to go to school.
The rain started at about 6.45 am and continued heavily for more than two hours.
Waterlogging was reported on Delhi-Jaipur Expressway near Narsinghpur, Sohna Road, Golf Course Extension Road, Basai, Hero Honda Chowk, Southern Peripheral Road, Bakhtawar Chowk, Subhash Chowk, Sector 44-45 traffic lights near the Millenium City Centre, and many other areas.
The police were seen struggling to manage the traffic, which remains high on normal days in the morning hours. In some areas, particularly the Bakhtawar Chowk and Hero Honda Chowk, the traffic lights stopped working making it hard for the traffic police to manage the ‘unruly’ traffic.
Meanwhile, spokesman of the MC Gurugram said that they had deployed men and machinery at Rajiv Chowk, Khandsa, Hero Honda Chowk, Millenium City Centre, Subash Chowk, Pataudi road, and many other areas to pump out water from the roads. They stacked sand bags on one side at the underpass on Hero Honda Chowk to prevent the rain water from going down.
