Raja Iqbal Singh, Leader of the Opposition in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), has launched a scathing attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for failing to deliver on its promises made during the MCD elections. Speaking at a press conference, the former mayor of the MCD, accused the AAP of making false assurances to street vendors, particularly its promise to create special vending zones, which he claims has not been fulfilled.

During the municipal elections, the AAP had promised to resolve the issues faced by street vendors by establishing special vending zones. However, Singh pointed out that after securing votes, the party had neglected this commitment. He criticised the AAP for its habit to offer “big dreams and false hopes” to the public in order to win votes, only to shift focus to corruption once in power.

Singh questioned the Mayor of Delhi, asking how many special vending zones had been created and how many licenses had been issued over the past three years. He claimed that the AAP-led government had failed to respond to these crucial questions and that the street vending department was under the control of corrupt officials, who, according to Singh, were receiving protection from AAP leaders.

Urging street vendors to hold the AAP accountable in the Assembly elections, Singh urged them to support the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He highlighted the government’s efforts under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, including the PM SVANidhi scheme, which provides street vendors with access to easy loans on simple terms.
