Red Fort blast: CCTV footage shows masked driver, car 'parked' 3 hours before explosion

Delhi Police are intensifying their probe into the blast near the Red Fort Metro station that killed at least 12 people and injured around 20 others.

According to PTI, citing police sources, CCTV footage shows a ‘masked man’ driving the Hyundai i20 involved in the Red Fort Metro area blast.

Investigators noted that the vehicle was parked in a nearby parking lot for approximately three hours before the blast. Multiple police teams are reviewing footage from surrounding areas and parking lots to track the suspect’s movements.

Authorities also conducted overnight searches at hotels and guest houses in Daryaganj and Paharganj, checking registers and questioning staff to trace anyone matching the suspect’s description.

“All police stations in the national capital have been asked to stay alert, maintain strict vigil at local markets, metro stations, bus stands, and railway stations, and report any suspicious activity immediately,” a police officer said.

Delhi Police have deployed teams from the Special Cell, Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), and local units to investigate the circumstances of the explosion and are probing whether it could be a “suicide bombing” or part of a larger terror plot.

Preliminary findings by police also suggest ammonium nitrate, fuel oil and detonators may have been used in the blast.

According to sources, a man named Tariq from Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir, who has been arrested, is said to have given the Hyundai i20 car to Umar Mohammad.

Umar, who is a doctor by profession, was allegedly associated with the Jaish-e-Mohammad terror module, they said.

After his fellow doctors who were part of the terror module were arrested, Umar Mohammad allegedly carried out this terror attack fearing that he too might be caught, sources added.
