Red Fort blast probe: Delhi Police question Gurugram resident linked to car

Just hours after a blast from a Hyundai i20 car killed nine people and left around 20 others injured near the Red Fort Metro station on Monday evening, police questioned a Gurugram resident under whose name the vehicle was registered, sources said.

According to sources, the Gurugram resident, reportedly named Salman, had recently sold the car to a person said to be from Pulwama in Jammu and Kashmir, though this detail is yet to be verified.

The vehicle carried a Haryana registration number. Investigators are also probing the possibility that the car may have changed hands multiple times, sources privy to the details said.

The explosion occurred inside a slow-moving Hyundai i20 car at a traffic signal near Lal Quila Metro station around 7 p.m. on November 10.

So far, nine people have been confirmed dead, while scores sustained injuries in the blast, the nature of which is still being determined.

Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has convened a meeting with the heads of all top investigative agencies at 11 am to review the ongoing probe into the deadly attack.

Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Director Intelligence Bureau (IB) Tapan Deka, Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha and Director General of NIA Sadanand Date will attend the meeting. Jammu and Kashmir DGP will attend the meeting virtually, official sources informed.
