New Delhi, August 4
A 61-year-old retired IRS officer was left injured after a burglar allegedly entered his residence in Vasant Kunj area of South West Delhi. The police have arrested two persons in connection with the incident, officials said on Sunday.
According to the police, they received a call regarding burglary at 1.15 am on Saturday night. It is learnt that Abhay Kumar Singh, a retired IRS officer, and his wife were sleeping in their bedroom, while his son and servant were sleeping in another room at the time of the incident.
Manoj Meena, Deputy Commissioner of Police, South West district, said, “Singh was awakened around 1 am as a loud noise came from the balcony adjacent to their bedroom. He saw a man entering their bedroom through the sliding door.”
“Upon seeing the intruder, he began shouting and woke up his wife. The intruder injured Singh and his wife. However, later the family and the servant locked the ‘thief’ inside a room, but he escaped from the balcony.”
The police and forensics team collected vital clues from the house and a case was registered. “Six teams were constituted to arrest the accused behind the burglary. The accused, identified as Meerut resident Jitender (38), was nabbed within 12 hours by the team of Special Staff, South West District.”
The victims were discharged after they received treatment at AIIMS Trauma Centre. Besides, weapon used in the crime and other evidences were also recovered, the DCP said.
The police also apprehended another person from his house. The second accused was identified as Arun, a resident of Raj Nagar at Palam village. The police recovered three stolen laptops and a laptop bag from Arun.
Further investigation is being done in this regard, the police said. — TNS
