After leaving the showroom, the robbers attempted to loot other shops in the vicinity, but the shopkeepers managed to foil their plan by throwing chilli powder into their eyes, forcing them to flee, they said.

The police have registered a case against unidentified persons. They are scrutinising the CCTV footage collected from the area to identifying the suspects.

A PCR call was received from the showroom in the Y-Block area on Saturday evening regarding the incident.

“The police reached the spot and found the showroom ransacked, with goods of nearby shops scattered on the road. Traces of chilli powder were also found in front of a few shops,” a senior police officer said.

Preliminary investigations suggested that a group of around eight men, who were armed with knives, entered the showroom. They broke the glass shelves, before decamping with gold jewellery worth around Rs 12 lakh.

They also snatched belongings of customers present at the showroom at the time of the

incident. The suspects threated to kill anyone who resisted.
