Five armed miscreants, posing as auditors, fled after looting cash worth Rs 9.5 lakh at gunpoint from a branch of Manappuram Gold Loan here on Saturday evening.
However, the employees have no information about whether they took the jewellery or not. Following the complaint filed by Jaideep Dangi, area manager of the firm, an FIR was registered at the Sector 5 police station. Upon receiving information, a police team reached the spot and started a probe into the matter. Barricades were laid on all main roads in search of the miscreants.
According to the police, around 6 pm, a security guard and two other employees were at the office when two men came inside and introduced themselves as auditors. Two minutes later, 203 more men came entered the office. Soon after, they held the staff at gunpoint and took nearly Rs 9.5 lakh from the rack and fled the spot. The miscreants reportedly came on motorcycles, however, they had parked their vehicles far away. They committed the robbery in only 10 minutes. After they left, the branch employees informed the police about it. Teams of police, crime branch and dog squad reached the spot and started investigation.
A senior investigating official said the employees of the branch asked whether they took the jewellery also or not, the employees said that they could not give accurate information about it. “An FIR was registered and miscreants are being identified based on their appearance through CCTV cameras. We have laid barricades at many places in the city. The miscreants will be arrested soon,” said Inspector Sukhbir, SHO of the Sector 5 police station
