The Delhi Police arrested a key accused wanted in a robbery-cum-murder case following an exchange of fire, officials said on Monday.
The key accused, identified as Sahil (22), was injured during the encounter with the police and was subsequently arrested. His disclosure led to the arrest of two of his associates - Mohd Faiyaaz, alias Allen (25), and Deepak (32).
DCP (North-West) Bhisham Singh said the incident took place on February 25 when Saroj Pathak (45), a cashier at a factory in Ashok Vihar, was shot dead while transporting cash to Shalimar Bagh on his scooter.
The police used technical surveillance to track the movements of the suspects and analysed call detail records (CDRs) which helped in zeroing in on the accused.
During the investigation, a stolen motorcycle used in the crime was recovered. The scooty of the deceased was also found in Alipur, they said.
On March 2, the police received a tip-off about Sahil’s whereabouts. “When the team signaled him to stop, Sahil opened fire at the police party. In self-defence, we had to retaliate, leading to a gunshot injury on his right knee,” the DCP stated.
Sahil was taken to a hospital. A country-made pistol, along with two empty cartridges and one live cartridge, was recovered from him, he added. Subsequent interrogations led to the arrest of his accomplices, Mohd Faiyaaz and Deepak.
