A 19-year-old girl was allegedly pushed to death from the rooftop of her house by a man who had reportedly disguised himself in a burqa to gain entry into her home in northeast Delhi’s Ashok Nagar.
The victim’s parents have demanded death penalty for the accused, saying only the harshest punishment would bring justice to their daughter.
“My daughter should not have died like this. The man who did this should be punished in the same way. He should feel the same pain,” said the girl’s father, Surendra. Her mother, Kanta, echoed the sentiment. “He should be hanged. Only then will my daughter’s soul rest in peace,” she said, recounting the horrific incident that unfolded on Monday.
The girl went to the fifth-floor terrace to check the water tank, but didn’t return. When her father rushed upstairs, he found a man fighting with her. “When he tried to intervene, the man pushed him away and pushed our daughter from the rooftop,” Kanta recalled.
The victim’s younger sister, Meenakshi, still visibly shaken, said, “He should be shot dead.”
The police identified the accused as Taufeeq (26), a resident of Rampur, Uttar Pradesh. He was arrested late on Tuesday. According to investigators, Taufeeq had reportedly been in a relationship with the victim. Tensions escalated when she learnt that he was about to marry someone else. Disguised in a burqa, Taufeeq visited her home posing as a female friend. An argument broke out on the terrace, following which he allegedly pushed her off the building.
The victim was rushed to a hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. Based on the family’s statement and preliminary findings, the police have added Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) to the case.
CCTV footage from the area is being examined. The police said “some vital clues” had been recovered. A senior officer confirmed that the investigation is ongoing to reconstruct the full sequence of events.
