Rs 10L stolen from ATM on Delhi-Jaipur Highway

Over Rs 10 lakh was stolen from an ATM located along the Delhi-Jaipur highway in Gurugram last month. The crime has only now come to light after an FIR was lodged.

The thieves managed to access the cash without breaking into the ATM machine. They also managed to disable the ATM’s video surveillance system, making it difficult to track them. Authorities suspect the robbery was carried out through a sophisticated hacking of the ATM’s security system.

In the complaint filed by Gaurav Kumar Baisla, a representative of Hitachi Payment Services, the company responsible for maintaining ATMs for various banks, it was revealed the theft took place on the night of April 30. Thieves broke into the Axis Bank ATM located at Rico Auto Industries along the Delhi-Jaipur highway and stole over Rs 10 lakh. They also made off with the DVR (video recording system), battery, hard disk, PC core and the chest lock.

Following the complaint, an FIR was registered at Sadar police station on Saturday and investigations are now underway.

“We have enlisted the help of technical experts to understand the methods used in the theft and to identify the culprits. We are also examining nearby CCTV footage and other evidence,” said Inspector Sunil Kumar, SHO of Sadar police station. “We hope to have a clearer picture soon.”

Authorities remain optimistic the thieves would be identified, as the investigation continues to gather momentum.
