Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot and Lieutenant-Governor VK Saxena on Tuesday laid the foundation stone of a multi-level electric bus parking depot at Vasant Vihar in South West Delhi.
With a height of 35 m and areas of over five acres, the new bus depot will have the capacity to accommodate 434 electric buses, 230 cars and 200 motorcycles, as compared to the current capacity of 125 buses. The six-level structure is expected to be built at an estimated cost of Rs 409.94 crore by August 2026.
Gahlot said, “The Vasant Vihar multi-level electric bus depot will be a symbol of Delhi’s future-oriented vision for urban mobility.”
The facility will include one basement and six parking levels, including the ground level. Solar panels of 122 KW capacity will be installed on the rooftop that will generate nearly 600 KWh solar energy, an official said. Additionally, the facility will be equipped with 85 charging points for both buses and public vehicles.
The ground level of the depot will house 16 maintenance bed pits, while the basement will have parking space for cars and two-wheelers. Additionally, the depot will have its own sewage treatment plant (STP).
