A 60-year-old businessman was detained for raising slogans against Gandhi Nagar MLA Arvinder Lovely during a political event where Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was also present, the police said on Friday.

This was the CM’s first public appearance after an attack on her two days ago during a public hearing at her official residence in Civil Lines.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdra) Prashant Gautam said the accused has been identified as Praveen Sharma, who runs a TV cable business in Ajeet Nagar, and claimed to be a BJP worker for the past 40 years. He raised slogans against Lovely while he was addressing the public and said his voice should reach before the CM.

Sharma was behind the barricades in a street where he was immediately apprehended and removed. No security was breached at any point of time, Gautam added.

In the event, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Lok Sabha MP Harsh Malhotra and senior leader Lovely marked their presence at ‘Vastrika 2025’, a prominent cultural and textile event held in Delhi.
