New Delhi, July 19

Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva accused Education Minister Atishi of pushing Delhi’s education system into darkness and questioned her accountability for the large number of students failing their exams.

“Atishi must answer why over one lakh students failed in the Class IX annual exam this year, and moreover, why more than 17,000 students failed even after getting a re-examination opportunity,” Sachdeva said.

He further challenged Atishi’s claims of an education revolution. “The Kejriwal government is a model of corruption. There is corruption in every department, which is now affecting the children of Delhi. Atishi, who talks about an education revolution, should explain the condition of Delhi’s education system,” Sachdeva asserted.

He accused the Kejriwal government of diverting attention from the failing education system. “In defence of the weakening education system, Atishi talks about other states but does not speak a word about Delhi’s “failing” education system. Delhiites want to ask the Education Minister, who always diverts the conversation, how long she will continue to play with the future of children for her political rhetoric,” he said.

Providing statistics on the increasing number of students failing in Class IX, Sachdeva highlighted a troubling trend: “In 2019-2020, 42,000 government schoolchildren failed in Class IX. In 2020-2021, 31,000 children failed; in 2021-2022, 28,000 children failed; in 2022-2023, 88,000 children failed; and in 2023-2024, 1,01,323 children failed. This ratio has been increasing steadily.”

He questioned why Atishi has not addressed the root causes of these failures. He criticised the “misuse” of teachers for political purposes, saying, “They gather crowds of teachers at Chhatrasal Stadium every other day, make them raise slogans for the Aam Aadmi Party, and then send them home. More than half of the teachers are not teaching but are being forced to work for Kejriwal in one department or another.”

He also lambasted Atishi for her alleged inaction in addressing the persistent water shortage in the city. According to Sachdeva, the water crisis continues to plague many areas of Delhi, while Atishi remains focused on “political theatrics and false statements”.

“Despite the persistent water shortage in Delhi, the Water Minister is neither paying attention nor taking any concrete steps,” stated Sachdeva.

“The situation in Delhi has deteriorated to the extent that even water tankers are unable to supply adequate water, causing severe difficulties for the people. Fights, altercations and injuries over tanker water have become common occurrences,” he added.

Sachdeva also criticised the lack of pipeline infrastructure in many areas, forcing residents to stand in long queues for hours just to fill two jerrycans of drinking water.
