Sachdeva lays stone of sports stadium at Najafgarh village

Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva laid the foundation stone for the reconstruction of a major sports stadium in Jharoda Kalan village, Najafgarh, on Saturday. The initiative, part of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s (MCD) Gramodaya Yojana, also includes the construction of two badminton courts, a basketball court, a walking track and a football stadium.

Present at the event were MP Kamaljeet Sehrawat, MLA Neelam, former MLA Ajit Kharkhari, Najafgarh district president Raj Sharma, zone chairperson Savita Sharma, deputy chairman Banke Pehlwan and other regional MCD officials. The project is being executed under the guidance of local councillor Amit Kharkhari.

Speaking at the event, Sachdeva emphasised the importance of nurturing athletic talent in rural areas. He encouraged local football teams by distributing incentive funds, urging them to bring pride to their region through hard work and commitment. He also encouraged children to take a pledge to plant trees to combat air pollution and improve the local environment.

Sachdeva expressed gratitude to the Lieutenant Governor for the Rs 960 crore allocation under the Gramodaya Yojana, which he said was made possible by consistent demands from Delhi’s rural population. “The journey to make Delhi a symbol of developed India begins in its villages,” he said.

In addition to the stadium, the Rs 14 crore development package includes the repair of 102 smaller lanes across the area. Sachdeva also highlighted that development efforts are underway not just in Najafgarh, but in other rural constituencies such as Narela, Palla, Bijwasan, Mehrauli and Chhatarpur.

He underlined the importance of public participation in cleanliness, urging residents to report civic issues to their local representatives and to refrain from using plastic and littering. “Cleanliness is everyone’s responsibility, and the BJP, along with the government, is committed to serving the people and upholding their trust,” he added.

MP Kamaljeet Sehrawat echoed his sentiments, calling the stadium a step forward in Delhi’s ongoing development. “This progress is a result of the public’s blessings and support. Under the leadership of Sachdeva and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, we will continue to fulfill our promises,” she said.

Councillor Amit Kharkhari hailed the formation of what he termed Delhi’s first “triple-engine government” — with the BJP in power at the Central, state and local levels. He criticised the previous administration for neglecting development for 11 years and vowed not to let people down.
