The Delhi unit of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), led by Sukhbir Badal, has appealed to the Akal Takht for intervention to safeguard the 50-year-old Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) from impending ‘ruin’.

The party blamed former BJP MLA Manjinder Singh Sirsa and current DSGMC President Harmeet Singh Kalka for the deterioration of the DSGMC.

Paramjit Singh Sarna, who heads the Delhi unit of SAD, alleged that the Sirsa-Kalka duo is responsible for exacerbating issues related to the salaries of staff at Guru Harkrishan Public Schools (GHPS), leading to a critical situation where the Sikh community’s heritage is at risk of being confiscated.

Sarna referred to a Delhi High Court judgment that found fault with the current management led by Kalka, questioning the DSGMC Chairman and General Secretary for allegedly misrepresenting the court on the issue of GHPS teachers’ salaries. He highlighted that the court has mandated a forensic audit of all schools under the DSGMC’s jurisdiction.

Sarna asserted that Sirsa, who previously headed the DSGMC, has consistently provided misleading information during court proceedings. Expressing deep concern, Sarna lamented that due to the actions of Sirsa and Kalka, an esteemed institution like the DSGMC is now teetering on the brink of collapse.

Sarna demanded the immediate resignation of Kalka and other officials for financial misappropriation and embezzlement. He further accused Sirsa of harbouring ambitions for a Lok Sabha ticket and alleged that Sirsa’s actions are driven by this ambition, leading to the deliberate destruction of an esteemed institution like the DSGMC.
