Satya is MCD Standing Committee chairperson

BJP’s Satya Sharma and Sunder Singh were elected as the chairperson and vice-chairperson, respectively, of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Standing Committee in the elections held on Thursday.

Satya Sharma secured 11 votes to defeat AAP candidate Praveen Kumar, who garnered seven votes. For the post of vice-chairperson, BJP’s Sunder Singh also secured 11 votes, defeating AAP’s Mohini Jeenwal, who received seven. All 18 members of the Standing Committee participated in the voting.

The proceedings were presided over by Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh, who congratulated the newly elected members and expressed optimism about future developmental work. “Now that the Standing Committee has been formed, we will collectively achieve new milestones in development,” he said.

In her address, Satya Sharma emphasised the need for renewed focus on civic development. “No developmental work had taken place over the past two and a half years, but now we will take positive steps forward. Our goal is to work with dedication to make Delhi clean and beautiful,” she stated.

The session also observed a two-minute silence in memory of those who lost their lives in the Ahmedabad plane crash, with Sharma expressing her condolences to the bereaved families.
