Scheme to give Rs 1,000 to Delhi women rolls out, to be raised to Rs 2,100 after polls: Kejriwal
In a huge announcement ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections, AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday said the Delhi Cabinet had cleared the Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana and that the direct transfer would be increased from Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,100 for every eligible woman above the age of 18.
“Main accounts ka jaadugar hun, mujhe pata hai kahan paisa bachana hai aur kahan se laana hai (I am a magician of accounts, I know from where the money has to be saved and from where it has to be brought),” the former Delhi Chief Minister said.
He, however, said since elections were going to be announced in some time and model code of conduct would be in place, therefore the direct transfer would not happen now, but the registration for the scheme would begin from today.
“Today, I have come to make two big announcements for the people of Delhi. Both the announcements are for women. I had promised that I will give Rs 1,000 to every woman. This proposal was passed in the Cabinet meeting chaired by Atishi this morning. Now, this scheme has been implemented in Delhi...Elections will be announced in 10-15 days, so it is not possible to transfer money to the account right now. Some women said Rs 1,000 will not be enough due to inflation. Therefore, the registration will start from tomorrow for Rs 2,100 per month,” he said.
To the women of Delhi, Kejriwal said the scheme was earlier announced in March but it could not be launched due to the “obstacles of his arrest”. “However, just like I have launched the scheme even after facing obstacles, I will increase the amount from Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,100 when voted back to power. You will get Rs 2,100 after the elections.”
Further attacking the BJP and calling on the voters of Delhi, the AAP supremo said, “Some people are saying that the AAP will get lesser seats even if we form the government, but I would like to urge you to bring us back to power with a thumping majority otherwise they (BJP) would break our MLAs and try to make their own government.”
