A group of youths allegedly opened fire at a café in Satya Niketan here on Sunday evening after a scuffle broke out with the café owner over sitting on a glass table.
A police officer said, “Constable Ravinder, who was on patrol, immediately arrested one of the accused, identified as Ahmed (26) from Jahangirpuri, after a high-speed chase. He sells paneer in Jahangirpuri.”
The accused had come to Lovebite Café from Jahangirpuri to celebrate Ahmed’s birthday.
The service boy at the café told the police that around 8.30 pm, around 10-12 youths entered the café for dinner, and one of them sat on a glass table. “Rohit, the owner, objected, leading to a heated argument. Later, more entered the café and the scuffle escalated. One of the accused, identified as Javed (23), fired shots into the air outside the café,” the officer added.
Javed had been previously involved in six criminal cases. His brother was killed inside Tihar Jail in 2020 after being arrested in a murder case, a source said.
A case has been registered in this regard under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The other accused were identified as Aurangzeb, alias Mangal (26), who sells footwear; Ahmed (26); Atul (20); and Adil (19). The other accused are on the run. The police have recovered a Mahindra Thar used in the crime from Aurangzeb and an illegal country-made pistol (7.65 mm) with five live rounds from Javed.
