Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Atishi on Friday demanded that the Delhi School Education (Transparency in Fixation and Regulation of Fees) Bill, 2025, be sent to a select committee comprising legislators from both the ruling BJP and the opposition AAP.

Speaking in the Assembly, she criticised the government for introducing the Bill without seeking stakeholder feedback. Atishi urged the government to roll back the hiked fees and reinstate last year’s fee structure until public opinion is taken into account.

Joining the criticism, AAP MLA Anil Jha accused the government of focusing solely on public schools while neglecting the broader educational landscape.

“This Bill was brought in August — why not in March or April? Had the government acted then, private schools wouldn’t have increased fees so drastically. Parents were standing outside school gates, crying for help, but the government deliberately chose inaction,” he said.

Jha further alleged that the Bill facilitates the commercialisation of education. “Some private schools hold fixed deposits worth Rs 50 crore. Their operational costs are covered by the interest alone, yet they continue to hike fees. This is a move that benefits corporates, not students,” he added.
