‘Seva Pakhwada’ to be launched on PM’s birthday, says CM Rekha
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday announced that the city would observe a ‘Seva Pakhwada’ (Fortnight of Service) from September 17, the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The programme will go on until October 2. During the fortnight, the Delhi Government will dedicate 75 new services and schemes to citizens — covering education, health, sanitation, housing, transport, and civic amenities.
Speaking at a press conference at the Delhi Secretariat, the Chief Minister said the initiative was a tribute to the Prime Minister’s lifelong dedication to public service.
“The ‘Seva Pakhwada’ will not be a mere formal event. It will ensure the launch and implementation of schemes that deliver real benefits to people,” Gupta said.
Key initiatives planned as part of the programme include the inauguration of 150 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs and five major hospitals, an intensive sanitation campaign titled ‘Delhi ko Kude se Azadi’, and several other development projects pertaining to housing, education, and civic infrastructure.
Gupta said these efforts reflected the government’s vision of building a ‘Viksit Delhi’, inspired by the Prime Minister’s leadership.
At the event, the Chief Minister also hit out at Opposition leaders over recent remarks made against the Prime Minister’s late mother, terming them “deeply offensive and regressive”.
She said: “The use of derogatory language against the Prime Minister’s late mother not only lowers the standards of politics, but insults womanhood itself. When a leader abuses the sacred title of ‘mother’, it is an affront to the sanctity of motherhood. What is most regrettable is that, to this day, these leaders have neither apologised nor shown remorse.”
