GMDA, dial join hands
- A Sreenivas, CEO, GMDA said, “The authorities concerned will work towards facilitating the city with adequate infrastructure to cater to the growing traffic trends. A detailed study of the current and future traffic volume and feasibility of developing the most viable access routes to the IGI Airport will be undertaken to deliver a solution to traffic situation

Sreenivas outlined that to ease traffic situation on the highway and to boost improved connectivity to the airport, a long-term infrastructure development planning must be undertaken. Seamless access between Gurugram and Delhi Airport will play a pivotal role in the further development and growth of the millennium city, he said. To provide best on-ground solutions for enhancing connectivity, the possibility of developing both road and rail network may be factored in the study, added Sreenivas.
“The authorities concerned will work towards facilitating the city with adequate infrastructure to cater to the growing traffic trends and increasing commute of Gurugram residents to the airport over a span of next 10-20 years. A detailed study of the current and future traffic volume and feasibility of developing the most viable access routes to the Delhi Airport will be undertaken to deliver a robust long-term solution to ease traffic situation in the future,” said Sreenivas.
DIAL has hired a consultant — Nippon Koei India — to assess the projected traffic volume and the required infrastructure to ensure seamless traffic movement.
The study will analyse the travel demand, estimating zone-wise traffic flow and movement patterns, tracking present transport network and factoring in future project corridors and public transport amenities, vehicle parking demand, etc, as the key objectives.
Consulting Engineers of Nippon Koei present in the meeting added that phase wise recommendations for mitigation measures will be drafted within a span of next three months. Short, medium and long-term solutions will be charted out to ease traffic congestion and improve the current connectivity situation for Gurugram residents.
The CEO added that improvement in external connectivity between Gurugram and the airport will extend towards improvement in traffic planning within the internal master roads and sectors of Gurugram. Additionally, providing a seamless access from Gurugram to the airport will also further reduce traffic congestion for commuters travelling on a daily basis to Delhi as the volume of the vehicles moving towards the airport will be channelised independently via a dedicated road network which will also reduce commuting time between Delhi and Gurugram.
