New Delhi: The Delhi Police have arrested a 38-year-old man for allegedly smuggling 100 turtles, 50 of them from endangered species, in the Shahdara area, officials on Wednesday said. The police said they recovered 50 Indian Roofed turtles, 45 Black Spotted Pond turtles, three Indian Eye turtles and two Indian Softshell turtles from the possession of Ghaziabad resident Bheem. pti

New Delhi: A 23-year-old man was thrashed to death by a woman’s brother for allegedly misbehaving with her near outer Delhi’s Jhuggi Dera Gazi Khan area, the police said on Wednesday. The accused, Prince (18), was arrested when he was trying to flee the city. The incident took place on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday. pti

Tree felling: SC notice to police

New Delhi: The SC on Wednesday took note of allegations of harassment levelled by a city resident, who has filed a contempt plea against the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) over “illegal” tree felling in the Ridge forest, and sought a response from the Delhi Police on the issue. A Bench of Justices Abhay S Oka and Augustine George Masih issued notice to the Delhi Police after senior advocate Gopal Sankaranarayanan, appearing for the petitioner, informed the court that police officers have been making enquiries regarding the other petitioner — New Delhi Nature Society — as well.
