The Supreme Court on Monday told four men convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment in the 2008 TV journalist Soumya Vishwanathan murder case to respond to the petition of the Delhi Police, challenging the High Court’s order granting bail to them.

A Bench of Justice Bela M Trivedi and Justice Satish Chandra Sharma issued notice to the four men and tagged the petition filed by Delhi Police with another petition filed by the slain journalist’s mother against the bail granted to them.

Earlier, the Supreme Court had on April 22 issued notice to the Delhi Government on her petition challenging the Delhi High Court’s order granting bail to the four convicts in the case.

Noting that the convicts have been in jail for 14 years, the High Court had on February 12 granted bail to four convicts — Ravi Kapoor, Amit Shukla, Baljeet Singh Malik and Ajay Kumar — and suspended their sentence till the pendency of their appeals against their conviction and sentence.
