Speaker inaugurates legal help service center in Rohini

Delhi Legislative Assembly Speaker and Rohini MLA Vijender Gupta on Saturday inaugurated a ‘Legal Help Service Centre’ in Rohini. The initiative, launched by Sampurna, a Delhi-based non-governmental organisation, aims to provide accessible legal guidance, family counselling and amicable dispute resolution through dialogue and community support.

Addressing the gathering, Gupta said: “Dialogue and counselling can resolve disputes before they turn into conflicts, and sensitive family matters should be addressed through understanding rather than confrontation.” He added the initiative meets real social needs and offers a humane alternative to formal legal processes.

Gupta described the counselling mechanism as a community-based model, similar to a panchayat, where disputes can be resolved through conversation and mutual consent. Referring to the Nirbhaya incident of December 2012, he emphasised the importance of tackling deep-rooted social problems such as distrust and intolerance. “The root cause of many conflicts is distrust. When distrust enters relationships, problems take an ugly and dangerous turn. Counselling works to transform distrust into trust and intolerance into patience,” he said.

The Speaker noted that the Legal Help Service Centre, along with the existing Family Counselling Centre (FCC), will operate regularly, with special counselling sessions every Saturday. He urged citizens to spread awareness about the services, adding: “When a family breaks, it is not just one family that suffers — many connected lives are affected. Most importantly, children bear the deepest impact.”
