State-level boxer held for shooting at uncle over property dispute

The Crime Branch unit of the Delhi Police arrested a wanted state-level boxer for an attempted murder case in Panipat, officials said on Sunday. Based on a tip-off, the police laid a trap near Japanese Park, Rohini, on Saturday. The boxer, Rajan Phour (30), alias Mantri, is a resident of Nangla Paar village in Panipat.

Phour had a property dispute with his uncle, Azad, who is also involved in criminal activities. Recently, Azad had insulted Phour’s mother in an altercation, following which he vowed to take revenge, the police said.

“On June 23, Phour and his associates opened fire on his uncle while he was driving back to his village. A bullet pierced through his car and hit him in the waist. However, Azad managed to drive home despite being injured,” said DCP, Crime (Zone-IV), Satish Kumar. Later, his family took him to the hospital.

The police spotted a Mahindra Scorpio in which Phour was the lone occupant. He was identified by police sources and apprehended. “Upon frisking, one automatic pistol loaded with two live cartridges was recovered from his possession,” the DCP said. A further search of the vehicle revealed a loaded single-shot pistol with a live cartridge hidden beneath the driver’s seat.

Phour, an active gangster, was wanted in the case registered at Sanoli police station in Panipat. He is a state-level boxer with a history of criminal involvement. “One of his uncles was jailed for murder, through whom Phour came into contact with gangsters,” the DCP added.

Phour had assisted gangsters during their hiding periods and helped them obtain passports with fake names. He fled to Dubai but returned to India to start a finance business and became a partner in a liquor shop. Phour has been previously involved in four cases, including attempted murder, abduction and other heinous crimes in Haryana.
