The 37th Surajkund International Crafts Mela is set to commence in Faridabad from February 2, with approximately 50 countries from around the world participating. President Droupadi Murmu will inaugurate the handicraft and cultural fair. The event will be open daily from February 2 to 18 from 10 am to 8 pm. According to Neeraj Kumar, Managing Director of Haryana Tourism Corporation, nearly 50 countries will take part in this year’s mela.

The United Republic of Tanzania is the ‘Partner Nation’, bringing the vibrant colours and vibes of Africa to the fair. Gujarat is the theme state, showcasing its unique culture and rich heritage through various art forms and handicrafts from the region. The fair attracts over a million tourists annually from India and abroad. The local administration and police are working to ensure a hassle-free experience for all attendees.

He added that this year, our eight north-eastern states, collectively known as ‘Ashta Lakshmi’, are participating as cultural partners. All eight states, namely Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura, will showcase their dances, handicrafts, cuisine, and culture. The key performances are expected to include bhangra from Punjab, Bihu from Assam, Barsana ki Holi, Lok Niritya from Haryana, Jamakda from Himachal Pradesh, live demonstration of ‘Hath Ki Chakki’ and the ever-famous Behrupiyas.

Mela entry tickets can be booked online through Bookmyshow.com, and convenient parking is facilitated through technological innovations in smart parking. The payment will be Fast Tag enabled and cashless. Visitors will have the option to book parking in advance. The Surajkund Mela Authority provides a 50 per cent rebate on entry tickets for differently-abled persons, senior citizens and serving defence personnel and ex-servicemen.

To enhance security measures, over 100 CCTV cameras have been installed in the ground. A significant number of security personnel, including women guards, are deployed to prevent untoward incidents or mishaps.
