A 16-year-old student died by suicide after jumping in front of a shuttle train in Faridabad on Friday morning. Preliminary investigations revealed that he had an argument with his mother earlier in the day.
The deceased, identified as Rohit, was a Class VII student at Government High School, NIT-1, Faridabad. Originally from Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, Rohit and his family had been living in the Ram Nagar colony for many years. His father, Bhagat Singh, works as a driver. Rohit was the eldest among his three sisters.
According to eyewitnesses, Rohit was seen sitting near the tracks around 11.30 am near the New Town railway station. Some youths who spotted him reportedly asked if he was in distress, but he did not respond. When they returned to the spot later, Rohit had already been hit by the train.
The shuttle train remained halted on the tracks for about 45 minutes during the rescue operation. Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel reached the site and took custody of the body, which was then sent to the mortuary for post-mortem. The family has been informed.
“No suicide note was recovered,” said Sub-Inspector Sanjay Kumar, the investigating officer.
