The three precious lives lost in mishap

New Delhi, July 28

Three students with the dream of becoming civil servants came to Delhi to prepare for one of the most top highly rated examinations in the country and ended up dying drowning in the basement of a coaching centre which was running an illegal library in the basement. The three civil services aspirants were identified as Shreya Yadav, Tania Soni and Navin Delvin.

Shreya Yadav, 25, a resident of Ambedkar Nagar in Uttar Pradesh, came to Delhi in April this year to prepare for the UPSC exam. She was the oldest of the three siblings and her father ran a dairy shop in Uttar Pradesh.

Devender Yadav, her relative who lives in Ghaziabad, said he came to know of the tragedy on a TV news channel. “When I couldn’t reach out to her, I rushed to the spot. I did not receive any official information either from the coaching centre or the police. When I reached the mortuary, they denied showing me the body saying it was a police case and only gave a note which had her name.” he said.

Tania Soni, 25, was a resident of Hyderabad, Telangana, however, she originally belonged to Aurangabad in Bihar. She was a student at Delhi University and had been staying at her college hostel. The 25-year-old had recently taken admission at the coaching centre. Her father works for a mining company in Telangana and has two younger siblings.

Nevin Dalvin, 28, was a resident of Ernakulum (Kerala) and was pursuing PhD from the School of Arts and Aesthetics in JNU. The university’s Students Union president Dhananjay said, “I visited his family in RML Hospital and expressed condolences and solidarity on behalf of the JNU student community.” The students undertook a condolence meeting at Sabarmati Dhaba in the evening, he said.
