The Delhi Police have arrested three men for the alleged murder of a 19-year-old woman, identified as Soni, whose body was found buried in an abandoned area at Rohtak in Haryana. The arrests were made on Saturday following a missing person complaint filed by Soni’s brother on October 22.

Soni, a resident of Nangloi in West Delhi, was described as socially active, with over 6,000 followers on social media. According to police officials, she often shared photos and videos with her boyfriend, Sanju, also known as Saleem, who also posted about her on Instagram. “Soni’s family noted that while she had made a new friend, she often referred to him as a ‘ghost’ when asked about him,” a police officer revealed. The investigation began when her brother expressed concern over her sudden disappearance, suggesting that the new acquaintance may be involved. “Upon receiving the complaint, we formed multiple teams to investigate her whereabouts. Her phone was found to be switched off,” the senior police officer stated.

As the investigation unfolded, police apprehended Sanju and another accomplice, Pankaj. “During questioning, both confessed to the crime,” the officer added. They admitted to renting a car on October 21 and taking Soni along with some of her belongings to Rohtak, Haryana, where they allegedly killed her and buried her body. There are still unanswered questions regarding the nature of Soni’s relationship with Sanju. Sources indicate that some family members believe Soni may have been pregnant, but the results of the post-mortem examination are still pending.

According to police sources, the preliminary investigation suggests that strangulation may be the cause of death, but the definitive reason will be confirmed by the postmortem reports later.
