Three lives snuffed out in 2 separate incidents in Delhi
Speeding car kills 2; drunk man murders live-in partner
Three persons lost their lives in two separate incidents in the national capital.
In the first incident, two persons, including an elderly man, were killed after a speeding car allegedly ran over them in West Delhi on Wednesday, the police said. The deceased had been identified as Munni Raj (48), a resident of Anand Parbat, and Surajpal (74), they said.
The police received information about the incident around 6:10 pm. A PCR van shifted the injured persons to a hospital. When the police reached the spot, they found the car involved in the mishap abandoned at the spot, with the driver missing.
On Thursday, the police got information from the hospital that both men succumbed to their injuries during treatment, an official said.
A case under Sections 281 (rash or negligent driving) and 125-A (act of rashness or negligence causes “hurt” to another person) was registered at the Moti Nagar police station and efforts were being made to arrest the offending driver, the police said.
In another incident, a woman was allegedly murdered by her inebriated live-in partner, who throttled her with his elbow during an altercation over money at their Chhawla residence in southwest Delhi, the police said on Thursday.
The police said they received a PCR call around 9:15 am regarding a body lying inside a car at Deenpur Extension. During enquiry, it was found that the woman was in a live-in relationship with Virender Singh (35), a resident of Deenpur Extension.
The accused was so intoxicated that though he managed to carry the woman’s body to his car, allegedly with an intention of disposing of it, he was unable to drive and returned home, an official said.
The official said the accused, who was married and had children, was living with the deceased for the past two years.
The woman earlier owned a house in Raj Nagar, which they sold. Using that money, Virendra purchased a flat in Deenpur registered on his own name in August this year, the police said.
The officer said an additional Rs 21 lakh from the sale remained with Virendra, which often became a point of contention between the two. On the intervening night of November 25 and 26, both had been allegedly drinking when a fight broke out.
During the altercation, Virendra, who works with a bus company, allegedly pinned the woman to the bed and throttled her with his elbow. After killing her, he called two friends, a man and a woman, who allegedly helped him carry the body to the car.
The friends left soon after, and Virendra attempted to drive away to dispose of the body. However, due to his heavy intoxication, he could not continue beyond around 100 metres and returned home. Leaving the body in the car, he went upstairs, resumed drinking and eventually fell asleep, the police said.
