Three nabbed for attack on police

16 arrested since September 27 incident

The police have arrested three accused of an attack on a police team at Nuh district’s Indana village on September 27. One of them was apprehended after being shot in a leg during an encounter. He was admitted to a hospital.

As many as 16 accused have been arrested in this case.

Of these, 13 were apprehended by the police on the day of the incident. The police team was attacked when a raid was carried out over vehicles brought from Punjab. It is alleged that the accused had brought the vehicles on rent and then sold them after changing their chassis and engine numbers.

The accused arrested on Wednesday were identified as Fakhruddin, a resident of Sarai Khatela village, Palwal district, and Jahul and Akhlaq of Indana village, Nuh district. All three accused were captured in a video made by a police team while they were pelting stones on the raiding party.

The police had arrested Fakhruddin and Jahul when they got the information that Akhlaq was on his way to Punhana. A police team put a barricade at Bombay Bridge on the Hodal-Punhana road. Akhlaq arrived on a motorcycle without a number plate and when stopped, he opened fire on the police party. Constable Gajender had a narrow escape.

“When the police tried to nab Akhlaq, he ran into the fields, where his motorcycle skidded and he fell. He then fired again at the police party and in retaliation, he got shot in his. He is being treated at a medical college in Nalhar. A country-made pistol and a motorcycle have been seized from his possession. He will be arrested as soon as he’s out of the hospital,” Ayush Yadav, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Nuh, said.
