Three-tier security arrangements have been put in place at all 19 counting centres ahead of the counting of votes for the Delhi Assembly elections on Saturday, a Delhi Police official said on Friday.
Two companies of paramilitary forces and Delhi Police personnel have been deployed, it added.
“We have made robust security arrangements for counting day. Only authorised personnel will be allowed inside the counting centres where use of mobile phones will be strictly prohibited,” said Devesh Chandra Srivastava, Special Commissioner of Police (SPN-Assembly Election).
He said the Delhi Police had already conducted anti-sabotage checks at all counting centres and devised a traffic management plan to ensure smooth vehicular movement.
“Area DCPs will be handling the security of the counting centres. Delhi Police personnel are continuously being briefed to ensure strict security measures at the centres. Barricades will be erected at 200m away from the counting centres, according to the security guidelines of the Election Commission,” he said.
The Delhi Police have so far seized Rs 11.70 crore in cash and 37.39 kg of silver during the Delhi Assembly elections since January 7, officials confirmed in a statement.
Security has also been heightened around strong rooms where electronic voting machines (EVMs) are stored. The Election Commission has assured stringent measures to maintain the integrity of the electoral process till the results are declared.
