Traffic restrictions, diversions announced in Delhi as heavy jams likely during Chhath Puja
Commuters advised to avoid routes near major ghats; special arrangements made to manage congestion
The Delhi Traffic Police on Monday issued an advisory for the third and fourth days of Chhath Puja, which will be celebrated across the national capital from today afternoon till tomorrow morning.
In view of large gatherings at various ghats and ponds, special traffic arrangements have been put in place to ensure smooth vehicular movement and public safety, officials said.
According to the advisory, heavy congestion is anticipated near major ponds and ghats located in Eastern, Central, North, South, South-East, North-West, Outer and Western Delhi.
Key roads likely to face traffic pressure include Mehrauli-Badarpur (MB) Road, Kalindi Kunj Khadar Road, Agra Canal Road and Road No. 13.
Traffic diversions will also be enforced in several areas, including Bhajanpura, Gandhi Nagar and Khajuri Khas, to regulate vehicle flow and facilitate devotees heading towards Chhath Puja sites.
Commuters have been advised to plan their journeys and avoid routes leading to congested zones.
The police have urged residents to use public transport, particularly the Delhi Metro, and to avoid roadside parking near ghats and ponds.
Citizens have also been advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity or object to police personnel immediately.
The four-day-long Chhath Puja festivities commenced on Saturday with the ritual of ‘Nahay-Khay’, marking the beginning of the festival dedicated to the worship of the Sun God and Chhathi Maiya.
