The accident occurred around 10.15 am, when a truck loaded with gas cylinders first collided with a parked motorcycle and then ploughed into several pedestrians near a cluster of fruit carts.
Eyewitnesses reported that the truck approached from the Ashram side, hit the motorcycle and subsequently rammed into bystanders and roadside vendors. The impact caused severe damage to the motorcycle.
A police team promptly reached the scene. The crime team was also summoned for videography and forensic examination. The truck driver attempted to flee but was intercepted by traffic police officials at the red light near Apollo Hospital.
All four injured were rushed to Apollo Hospital by locals and PCR personnel. Unfortunately, one of them — Sabbir (36), a resident of Dakshinpuri, Ambedkar Nagar — was declared brought dead.
The accused driver, Brahamdeo Singh (43) from Hanuman Nagar, Sitamarhi district, Bihar, has been taken into custody, and the offending truck has been seized.
