The special cell of the Delhi Police nabbed two members of the fugitive Rohit Godara gang, being operated from abroad, after an exchange of fire here in the wee hours of Friday, the police said.
The accused have been identified as Akash Rajput, a resident of Sri Ganganagar in Rajasthan, and Mahipal, a resident of Bharatpur, Rajasthan. They had allied with gangster Rohit Godara and his syndicate to carry out criminal activities in the city after the arrest of key shooters of the gang, they said.
According to officials, Rajput has a long criminal history spanning across Haryana, Rajasthan and Gujarat. He was allegedly involved in a July 2022 incident of firing outside a hospital in Asandh, Karnal, carried out at the behest of Canada-based gangster Daler Kotia.
He is also wanted in a July 2025 kidnapping-for-ransom case in Gujarat, where gangster Kirit Jhala, operating from abroad, demanded Rs 100 crore from the victim. The Rajasthan Police had announced a reward of Rs 20,000 for info leading to Rajput, who had also joined forces with wanted gangsters Jagdish Jagla and Abhishek Gaur, both associated with the Rohit Godara-Goldy Brar-Virender Charan syndicate.
Sources said he was in the final stages of acquiring a forged passport to escape abroad.
Meanwhile, Mahipal, who was previously arrested in the Asandh hospital firing case, was out on bail and had rejoined the foreign-controlled gangster network alongside Rajput.
During the operation, the Special Cell team intercepted the duo in Kapashera, Southwest Delhi. When asked to stop, the gangsters opened fire. The police team retaliated in self-defence.
During the encounter, Rajput sustained a bullet injury in his lower body before being overpowered. He was rushed to a hospital.
