Two boys drowned in the Haiderpur canal in northwest Delhi's Shalimar Bagh area while swimming, police said on Monday.
The deceased were identified as Aniket (9) and Krishan Kumar (13), both residents of slums near the Ayurvedic Hospital in Shalimar Bagh.
According to police, the incident occurred around 4 pm on Sunday and a PCR call was received around 10:17 pm. The boys were rushed to the BJRM Hospital, where doctors declared them brought dead, an official said, adding that a post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
Both boys had lost their mothers earlier and were being raised by their fathers, who work as daily wage labourers. At the time of the mishap, the fathers were away at work, the cop added.
A case has been registered and further investigation is underway, police added.
