The Delhi Police arrested two suspect involved in an ATM heist in Wazirabad, officials said on Monday.
The accused have been identified as Nadeem (28) and Sameer (27), both residents of Mewat, Haryana, who were members of a gang led by Imran, the police said.
According to the officials, the duo, along with four others, executed the heist in the early hours of February 6.
“The accused uprooted the ATM containing Rs 29.12 lakh from a kiosk using a stolen car. They transported the ATM to Mewat. They broke it open using a gas cutter and divided the money among themselves,” the officer said.
The heist was planned meticulously. The accused sprayed black paint on the ATM’s security cameras before committing the crime.
“After receiving an alert from the bank’s control room about tampering with the machine, the police rushed to the spot and found the kiosk empty,” an official added.
The police launched a search operation. They traced their location was traced to Nalhad village in Nuh.
“We raided the location and apprehended the suspects despite resistance from locals. “After their interrogation, the police recovered the stolen ATM from a well, which was covered with dry branches, in Mewat,” the officer said.
Nadeem, a BTech graduate from MBN University, Palwal, had a history of criminal involvement. “He was previously arrested in five cases and got associated with Imran’s gang while in Bhondsi jail,” the officer added.
Sameer, a BSc graduate from Al-Flah University, had a brief corporate stint before getting lured into crime. “He worked at Wonder Cement from 2022 to 2024, but was introduced to the gang by Nadeem in December 2024,” the police added.
The police have recovered Rs 47,500 in cash, a car used in the crime and the looted ATM. “Efforts are on to nab the remaining suspects and recover more stolen money,” the officer added.
