V-P praises govt’s drive to strengthen tourism, hospitality sectors

Vice-President CP Radhakrishnan met with Union Minister of Culture & Tourism, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, along with Ministers Rao Inderjit Singh and Suresh Gopi, at Parliament House on Friday. The discussion centred on key initiatives and future plans of the Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Culture. The Vice-President was briefed on the functioning, achievements and ongoing efforts of both ministries. He commended the Government’s focused drive to strengthen the tourism and hospitality sectors and suggested further steps to unlock India’s tourism potential. Radhakrishnan emphasised “developing destination-specific tourism, with particular attention to medical and spiritual tourism,” and highlighted the importance of “collaborating with international tour operators, organising culture, festival and location-specific tourism plans and working in unison with all stakeholders to create a world-class tourist experience.” On cultural heritage, he was updated on the Ministry of Culture’s mandate, including the preservation, conservation and promotion of India’s tangible and intangible cultural heritage. He lauded the ministry’s wide-ranging efforts and stressed the need for sustained focus on safeguarding India’s rich cultural legacy for future generations.

The Vice-President also underscored the significance of “adopting global best practices in museum management” and expressed confidence that “India’s continued economic growth will further strengthen cultural preservation and promotion initiatives.”
