The move has sparked protests by students, led by the Students’ Federation of India (SFI), outside the residence of Lieutenant-Governor VK Saxena, who is also the Chancellor of the university.

According to the university’s order dated September 25, three students — Sharanya (treasurer of the AUD Student Council), Shubhojeet (student council councillor) and Shefali (SFI Delhi State Committee member) — have been expelled, while Ajay and Keerthana have been debarred. Earlier, Nadia, another SFI state committee member pursuing her Master’s, was also served an expulsion notice.

The university said the action was taken in compliance with the Delhi High Court’s directions to complete the disciplinary process by September 26, after reports of “grave indiscipline” on April 11. The administration alleged that the students had engaged in violence, obstructed university staff, and attempted to assault the official vehicles of the Vice-Chancellor and Registrar
