Vijender Gupta leads padyatra, vows housing for slum dwellers
Vijender Gupta, BJP’s candidate for the Rohini Assembly constituency and Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Legislative Assembly, led a large padyatra on Thursday with hundreds of supporters across the Suraj Park JJ Colony in Sector-18, Rohini.
The march, aimed at engaging directly with local residents, covered areas including Platinum Apartments, H-Block, and Suraj Park Colony, culminating in a visit to the slum areas where Gupta addressed street gatherings and shared his vision for the region.
During the padyatra, Gupta interacted with slum dwellers and promised to provide them with concrete houses in exchange for their slums, along with ration cards and water connections. He emphasised the BJP's commitment to improving the lives of underprivileged communities, stating that his party is dedicated to uplifting marginalised sections of society.
"The BJP will provide concrete homes to every slum dweller and ensure basic amenities like ration cards and water connections," Gupta declared. "We are committed to the welfare of the underprivileged."
Accompanied by BJP leaders, Mandal Presidents, and local citizens, Gupta received a warm welcome from residents along the route. Throughout the march, he addressed their concerns and assured them of swift solutions once elected. He also criticised the AAP government, accusing it of failing to address crucial issues such as waste management, transport, and water supply.
Gupta sharply criticised the management of Delhi's landfill sites, particularly the massive garbage mountains at Ghazipur, Bhalswa, and Okhla. He accused the AAP government of neglecting waste management and failing to improve public transport, citing the reduction in bus services as a significant inconvenience to residents.
"The AAP government promised better waste management and improved public transport, but the situation has only worsened," Gupta said. "The garbage piles at landfill sites and the reduced bus services are clear signs of their incompetence."
Gupta also pointed to the ongoing water crisis, accusing the Kejriwal government of failing to increase the city’s water supply despite promises made in its election manifesto. "Delhi's water supply was 950 MGD ten years ago and remains the same today," he said, highlighting the government's inaction on this critical issue.
In addition to criticising the AAP government, Gupta highlighted several welfare schemes introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government, such as Ayushman Bharat, the Mudra Scheme, the PM Swanidhi scheme for street vendors, and the Ujjwala Yojana for women. Gupta praised these programs for benefiting millions of citizens, particularly marginalised communities.
He also promoted the BJP's "Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Stipend Scheme," which provides financial assistance to Scheduled Caste students pursuing technical education, and announced plans for financial aid to Delhi’s youth preparing for competitive exams. "Under BJP rule, we will support young Delhiites preparing for competitive exams with Rs 15,000 in financial assistance and reimbursements for application and travel fees," he said.
Gupta assured the public that existing free schemes, including those for women, would continue under BJP governance. He noted that the "Mahila Samman Yojana," an initiative originally introduced by the BJP, had already been successfully implemented in BJP-ruled states like Haryana, Odisha, Maharashtra, and Chhattisgarh.
