Villagers call mahapanchayat on Sept 13 against UER-2 toll
Anger over the Urban Extension Road (UER-2) toll tax is mounting in Delhi’s rural areas, with villagers vowing to step up their protest. A panchayat of 360 villages was held in Bindapur on Sunday under the chairmanship of Palam 360 Khap head Chaudhary Surendra Solanki, where it was unanimously decided to convene a large mahapanchayat on September 13 at the Bakkarwala-Mundka toll plaza.
Solanki told the gathering that the protest was not just about toll tax, but part of a wider struggle for the rights of rural communities. “No one can suppress the voice of 360 villages. The problems of the people will be firmly conveyed to the government,” he said.
The panchayat resolved that the upcoming mahapanchayat would be a “do-or-die battle” against the levy, with thousands of villagers and youth expected to participate. Villagers allege that the toll tax has been “forcibly imposed” on farmers and the general public and demanded its immediate abolition.
Leaders at the meeting warned that if their demands were ignored, the agitation would intensify. “The unity of 360 villages will no longer accept the toll tax at any cost,” the speakers declared.
It was also announced that the September 13 mahapanchayat would not only serve as a platform for protest but also for announcing a broader strategy to challenge the toll. Villagers were urged to attend in large numbers to strengthen the movement.
Those present at the Bindapur panchayat included Chaudhary Dhara Singh Pradhan (Bawana 52), Chaudhary Naresh Pradhan (Lado Sarai 96), Chaudhary Samundar Pradhan (Karala 17), Ranbir Pradhan (Narela 17), along with Naresh, Surendra Dabas, Suresh Shokeen, Dharmendra Bakkarwala, Rajendra Pradhan and Jassa Numberdar Pradhan (Tihar 28).
