The Faridabad police have arrested a wanted criminal who had been at large for 19 years in a drug smuggling case. Declared a proclaimed offender, he was apprehended by the police from Ambala on Wednesday.
According to the police, the arrested individual is identified as Rakesh alias Rinku (38), a resident of Tundla Mandi in Ambala, who formerly worked as an auto driver. In 2006, Rakesh, along with his accomplices Ranjit and Lakhwir, was travelling to Ambala via Faridabad with Chura-post in a car. When Faridabad police stopped them on GT Road, Lakhwir and Rinku managed to flee while Ranjit was arrested. The police recovered 200 kg of Chura-post from their car, and an FIR was registered at City police station, Ballabhgarh. Later in 2006, Lakhwir was also arrested, but Rakesh remained on the run.
"The accused Rakesh alias Rinku had been absconding for 19 years, changing locations to evade arrest. He was declared a proclaimed offender in 2007 but was finally apprehended. He was produced in a city court today and remanded to judicial custody," said the spokesperson of Faridabad police.
