New Delhi, July 23
The Delhi Police arrested four sharpshooters, including one involved in the fatal shooting of a 32-year-old man inside GTB Hospital, of a gang operating in the trans-Yamuna area, the police said on Tuesday. The accused have been identified as Rahul Singh, Suhail, Mukesh and Sameer.
Sameer was involved in the GTB Hospital murder case, said Deputy Commissioner of Police, Special Cell, Pratiksha Godara. The accused were wanted in multiple cases, including murder, robbery, extortion and violations of the Arms Act.
The 32-year-old man was killed inside a ward of GTB Hospital here on July 14. The attackers intended to kill a gangster from the Hashim Baba gang who had been admitted to the same ward. However, they mistakenly killed Riyazuddin, who was lying on the bed opposite their intended target.
“We received a tip-off that Sameer and Rahul were planning to eliminate their rival gang members and were hiding near the northeast Delhi border,” DCP Godara said. The police tracked their movements and located them near Rishikesh in Uttarakhand.
A team apprehended the duo from Muni Ki Reti in Rishikesh on July 19, recovering four pistols and 12 live cartridges. Following their arrests, two more gang members, Mukesh and Suhail, were arrested on July 20 in Mayur Vihar, Delhi, with two pistols and eight live cartridges. Further investigation is ongoing, the officer added.
