The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has accused the BJP of orchestrating a sinister plot to endanger Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s life, claiming that his health is being deliberately compromised while in judicial custody. This allegation follows remarks by Lieutenant-Governor (L-G) VK Saxena, who said Kejriwal is not adhering to his prescribed medical diet and medications.

‘Statement unfortunate’

The L-G’s statement is very unfortunate and does not befit a constitutional head of the state. Kejriwal has been suffering from diabetes for 30 years, and serious diabetes can lead to hypoglycemia. Does the L-G think that any person will deliberately make himself sick like this? Atishi, AAP minister

Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh criticised the L-G’s comments, describing these as “unfortunate and ill-informed”. He expressed his frustration on X, stating, “What kind of joke are you making, L-G sir? Would a man reduce his sugar levels at night? Which is very dangerous. L-G sir, if you do not know about the disease, you should not write such a letter. God forbid such a time ever comes to you.”

Delhi minister Atishi said, “CM Kejriwal’s sugar levels have dipped below 50 more than eight times, and he may go into a coma.” Atishi alleged that the BJP orchestrated Kejriwal’s arrest by the CBI to prevent him from getting bail from the Supreme Court, knowing that his health would deteriorate in jail. “The BJP knows that the longer CM Kejriwal stays in jail, the more his health will keep deteriorating,” she added.

Meanwhile, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva said CM Kejriwal had been deliberately undermining his own health to gain sympathy for his bail application. “Kejriwal is a very cunning person and is aware of the legal grounds on which he can get bail. Hence, he is continuously trying to lose weight deliberately so that he could claim before the court that his weight is decreasing in jail, and therefore, he should be granted bail,” said Sachdeva.
